About Melaka you need to know

The history begins with the founding of the Malacca Sultanate of Malacca by Parameswara, a noble from Palembang Srivijaya, in the years between 1400 to 1403.

Sultan Mahmud Shah of Malacca ruled until 1511, when the capital of the Portuguese army attacked under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque. Attacks began on August 10, 1511 and was conquered on August 24, 1511. Sultan Mahmud Shah fled to Bentan and establish a new capital there. In 1526 the Portuguese had destroyed Bentan, and Sultan fled to Kampar, Sumatra, where he died two years later. Mudzaffar son Sultan Shah I, the Sultan of Perak became the first, while the other son of Sultan Alauddin Shah Riayat II founded a new kingdom of Johor.

Malacca Sultanate ruled the city for 110 years until the defeat to the Portuguese in 1511.

Malacca was conquered by Alfonso de Albuquerque, a Portuguese Viceroy on August 24, 1511 and made it a strategic base for Portuguese expansion in the East Indies. Sultan Mahmud Shah, the last Sultan of Malacca, fled to the interior and cause difficulty for the Portuguese with intermittent attacks from the mainland and the sea. Finally, in 1526, the same group of ships under Pedro Mascarenhaas sent by Portugal to destroy the city Bentan protect Sultan Mahmud. Sultan Mahmud fled across the Strait of Malacca to Kampar in Sumatra where he died two years later.

St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missionary, lived in the city for several months in 1545, 1546 and 1549 due to make Malacca as the center of operations in the East.

In 1641, the Dutch conquered Malacca by the Portuguese with the assistance penewasan Sultan of Johor. The Dutch surrender Malacca to the British by the Anglo-Dutch Treaty in 1824. From 1826 to 1867, Malacca was ruled by the British East India Company (British East India Company), and later became a British colony. It became part of the Straits Settlements (Straits Settlements), together with Singapore and Penang in 1946. After the dissolution of the colony, Malacca and Penang became part of the Malayan Union, which later became Malaysia.

Malacca declared "Historical City" on April 15, 1989.
